The heart of your healthcare.

Battenkill Valley Health Center Inc. is a nonprofit federally qualified health center (FQHC) in Arlington, Vermont that provides affordable, quality primary and preventive care for all. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Bennington County is fortunate to have the fifth highest per-capita income in Vermont at roughly $28,000. Unfortunately, the Vermont Department of Health estimates 4 out of 10 people in our county are underinsured and 26% of all uninsured individuals throughout the state call southwest Vermont home¹. BVHC’s designation as an FQHC is unique as it is a one-stop comprehensive health center – even for those with difficulty paying for health services – thanks to enhanced Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement rates which help bridge the gap.

BVHC offers a Sliding Fee Discount Program for eligible county residents who are uninsured, underinsured or have high-deductible health insurance plans. We also accept most commercial insurances as well as Medicare and Medicaid.

We are a recipient of the Vermont Blueprint for Health program which offers each patient free access to an on-site dietitian, nurse case manager and behavior health specialist – all at no cost.

What does it mean to be a Federally Qualified Health Center?

Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) are community-based health care providers that receive funds from the HRSA Health Center Program to provide primary care services in underserved areas.  They must meet a stringent set of requirements, including providing care on a sliding fee scale based on ability to pay and operating under a governing board that includes patients.  To learn more about FQHCs, visit https://www.ruralhealthinfo.org/topics/federally-qualified-health-centers.

FQHCs are frequently referred to as Community Health Centers. Check out this video from the National Association of Community Health Centers.
